Grades 3-4
10 teams
14 games
Practices are encouraged
Games slots are 2 hours
Balls and strikes called by High School Girls Varsity Softball Players
Score and standings are kept
Rules vary by division
This level is about the further development of the skills learned in the Freshwomen Division. When the girls finish the second year in this division, they will have an understanding of the game and have experienced game situations. They should be able to:
Make throws with some degree of strength
Get in position to make a catch with her glove
Field ground balls
Pitchers should show decent accuracy
Have good base running skills
Have good hitting mechanics
Girls who demonstrate an interest in pitching should continue to develop this skill. The league offers clinics to help with this development.
Set objectives and have a plan. Come to every practice with a plan. Well-run softball practices should achieve at least three objectives:
Improve players’ basic skills in throwing, fielding, hitting, and base running
Provide opportunities for players to execute the basic and advanced skills in game-like situations
Improve players’ skills with repetition of drills. Repetition of skills is the best way to get your players to perform better. Repetition of correct fundamentals captivates interest.
