Milton Girls Softball requires that all coaches complete and submit a CORI form. We take this seriously. Only adults who have submitted a form may help coach a team.
We have permits for six (6) fields in Milton. This includes Gio, Kelly, Andrews Park and Cunningham Park. We also have the Milton Academy and Connell (Hyde Park) softball fields on specific days/times of the week.
Cunningham Park and Gio have batting cages available for our use. The cages are open to all teams across all leagues in Milton. As a league, we "reserve" one on our calendar so we do not have multiple MGS teams expecting to use them at the same time. When there are multiple teams using the cages we need to be adults and work it out.
Milton Girls Softball have sheds located each of the four main fields: Kelly Field, Cunningham Park, Andrews Park and Gio (high school). Each will contain a batting tee, bases, and other miscellaneous equipment. We also have pitching machines at the Gio box and Cunningham shed. Please only use the pitching machine balls in the machines.
We hand out keys to the boxes at equipment pickup. If you have any issues with access, please email wecare@miltonsoftball.com.
As of March 2022, we are no longer required to follow these guidelines. That being said, please show common sense with regards to health and safety.
The safety and well-being of our players and the softball family is our top priority. With this in mind, we have developed our Softball Return To Play guidelines and protocols that we are putting in place. This covers steps we all need to follow as players, parents and spectators. This document is a work in progress and will be updated as new information is provided by state and town officials.
Specific guidelines:
Stay 6 feet apart whenever possible- this includes the bench so you'll have to spill outside the bench (but behind fence!)
No one but players and coaches in play area
Have spray bottle of antibacterial out on bench so players can use often
Wear your mask at all times - easier than pulling it up and down. Kids will follow your lead!
Coaches need to remind parents to tell you and MGS if players tests positive
In the event that a player or coach tests positive for COVID-19, the affected team will be shut down from all softball activities for 48 hours from when we learn of the positive test. More specific actions will be shared at that time.
Please remind your players and parents that if they test positive, they need to let you and the league know as soon as they can.
Each registered girl on your team will receive a jersey. Uniforms will be ready for pickup by mid-April. If you have any questions regarding uniforms, please contact:
Beth Murphy
Email: bethmurphykovacs@gmail.com
Phone: 781.983.6161
Shorts are not provided, but if you would like your team to have a consistent look we suggest that you gently recommend that your girls wear the same color shorts to each game (the color of your choice!).
Equipment and equipment safety is an important component of our program. We will do our best to make sure your equipment bag is complete. If you have any questions about equipment, please contact the Equipment Manager:
Jake Maliel
Email: jakemaliel@gmail.com
Phone: 617.285.6837
First aid kits and cleaning supplies are stored in each storage box. If you notice supplies running low, please contact:

We are lucky to have scoreboards at Gio and Cunningham. We strongly suggest that you use the scoreboards for Sophomore, Junior and Senior games. Read Instructions on how to use the scoreboards.
The home team is designated on the schedule with a (h) following the team name. The home team is responsible for:
Supplying two new game balls to the umpire
Pulling the bases out of the lockbox and setting them up on the field
Paying the umpire (if applicable)
Putting the bases away
Turning off the scoreboard
Making sure the storage box is locked and secure
We all know how crazy New England weather can be. When the possibility of uncertain weather exists, we recommend that the head coaches reach out to one another to discuss a game plan. If umpires are involved, please make a decision at least 90 minutes before game time. If umpires arrive on the field and the game is canceled, you may be obligated to pay them. If you decide to cancel, you must call our Umpire Coordinator.

Please keep in mind that safety always comes first. Some guidelines to follow:
The game immediately stops with any visible sign of lightning. Teams should move to a safe location (not under a tree). Wait 15 minutes from the last sign of lightning before continuing a game.
Heavy rain may leave the field unplayable. Situations may occur when rain stops and the sun comes out at game time but please check the field. If safety is a concern, do not play.
If a game is postponed, the home team coach should provide the visiting team with 3-4 viable options to reschedule the game (after looking at the Master Calendar to confirm availability). The visiting team should respond in a timely manner.
Contact wecare@miltonsoftball.com with the division, teams, date, time and location. The game is officially rescheduled when you receive an email confirmation from the league.
2023 Umpire Fees
Senior/Junior (ASA) - $70/game
Sophomore (HS Varsity) - $40/game
For the Sophomore, Junior and Senior Divisions, please report the score of the game as well as a breakdown of innings pitched by each of your pitchers to your respective division coordinator. Please send this information in a timely manner. You may also receive a reminder from the website to update your game result.

You can also add scores from the website.
On the web browser (not app), on your team page click “Games” on the left hand side or from the black dropdown arrow if mobile. Note: this does show in “Schedules”, must be in “Games.”
Click “Score” under specific game and enter score. Click “Save Score”
“Score” will show up AFTER start time of scheduled game.
We have a Player Agent Program that allows girls to play up in the event that a team is shorthanded. This program provides 4th graders who are interested in occasionally "playing up" in Junior Division games and 6th graders who are interested in occasionally "playing up" in Senior Division games the opportunity to do so as long as it does not conflict with their team's game schedule.
Here is how the process works:
If you are in need of a player or players for a particular game, text Rebecca at (617) 750-6783. For efficiency, please text her. If you can't text her for some reason, feel free to email her at beck54@gmail.com. Texting is the fastest way to reach her.
Provide her your team, game date, time and field - make sure you indicate that it's a Junior or Senior team.
Rebecca will reach out to the players on the Player's Agent list and try to fulfill your request.
Rebecca will get back to you to via text confirm your request.
Please note:
The amount of players you have attending does not matter - it could be 8 or it could be 10 or more.
Please have an extra jersey on hand for the player. If you do not have an extra jersey, please use one from last season. Make sure she returns it to you at the end of the game. Players are being asked to wear their junior jersey as a backup.
You will not have any influence on the specific player(s) elected for your game (so please do not request a particular player)
A player playing up understands that they can only play in a game if they do not have a game conflict
Players who have been assigned to your game MUST be in the batting order and must play in the field
Please do not go out and recruit your own players. All players must be in our Player's Agent Database and be managed by Rebecca Olivieri.
Player Agent is not in play for the playoffs
Suggestions are welcome.
Coaches can schedule practices using our online Practice Request Form. Please remember to follow these steps:
Look at the Master Schedule to see available field time
Complete the Practice Request Form
Wait for confirmation (via email) by the league that the field time has been booked.
The league will notify you (and your assistants) confirming the practice and will add it to your team’s schedule. We leave it up to you to contact the team.
Our team sponsors provide valuable financial support for Milton Girls Softball which helps us to keep our registration fees down and provide resources which are used for clinics, field maintenance and improvement, and equipment. Our sponsors are recognized each year with a thank you plaque from Milton Girls Softball which includes a team photo.
Mia Gilmore, a current junior at Milton High School and a player and umpire in Milton Girls Softball, will be in contact with each of you in advance of one of your upcoming games to schedule a team photo session at your game. Each team photo will only take a few minutes and we request your support for this project.
